Who We Are

Atlanta Freedom Bands is a community of bands dedicated to musical excellence and LGBTQ+ visibility in the South. We believe that music is a universal language that translates across all populations, and our ensembles work to create an array of unique music styles. We are home to a concert band, marching band, color guard and big-swing band. Not only are we a band, but we are a supportive neighborhood of 100+ musicians from a diverse range of backgrounds, ages and skill levels working to create an inclusive environment for all.

We are proud to be a branch of the National Lesbian and Gay Band Association.

What We Stand For

Our founder, Buzz Car, attended the first ever Pride parade in Atlanta in 1993, and noticed there was no marching band! He exclaimed, “Every parade should have a marching band!”, and in 1994 the Atlanta Freedom Bands made their Pride debut.
Atlanta Freedom bands stands for LGBTQ+ visibility, musical creativity, respect of each other's experiences and commitment to excellence.
We welcome anyone who is willing to pick up an instrument to join in on the fun!
